Bénarès dans le district de la Savanne. C’est un petit village situé sur les lieux de l’ancienne sucrerie, aux embouchures des rivières Dragon et Saint Amand. L’histoire de Bénarès se confond, dés la guerre de l’indépendance Américaine, avec celle du sucre. Bénarès atteint son apogée sous l’égide de Sir Virgile Naz, avocat et planteur, qui y fit construire l’un des plus beaux châteaux coloniaux de l’île et dont le pavillon superbe par son perron en pierre de taille, sert encore d’école primaire.

Bénarès in the district of Savanne. It is a small village on the site of the old sugar mill, the river mouths Dragon and Saint Amand. The history of Bénarès merges, dice the American War of Independence, with the sugar. Bénarès reached its peak under the aegis of Sir Virgil Naz, a lawyer and planter, who built one of the most beautiful colonial castles of the island and whose flag by its superb stone staircase, is yet primary school.
