Au pied de la falaise du Nord, La Possession enclavée entre les communes de Saint-Denis et du Port, n’était qu’un lieu de passage incontournable entre le Nord et le Sud. La montagne et l’océan semblent l’enserrer dans un étau infranchissable. C’est ici que tout a commencé, en juin 1638. Salomon Goubert, fils du capitaine de la flûte « Saint-Alexis », apposa les armes du roi de France sur un arbre, prenant par cet acte, possession de l’île. La prise de possession officielle ne put se faire qu’en novembre 1649, par le capitaine Roger Lebourg, du navire « le Saint-Laurent » sur les ordres du gouverneur de Madagascar, Etienne de Flacourt. At the foot of the Northern cliff, La Possession tucked between the towns of Saint-Denis and the Port, was a vital crossing point between the North and the South. The mountain and ocean appear to enclose it into an insurmountable vise . This is where it all began in June 1638. Salomon Goubert, son of the Captain of the « Saint.
